New Board Members

The results of the HMD's Board of Director Election were determined on January 21 and after several minor changes, the new board was up and running for their first meeting on January 27. The current Board of Directors consists of: Will Anabel (Mader Inc.); Jeff Anthony (Iron Mountain); Juan Cabral (Shakey's Pizza); Carol Cassella, Vice President (Ren-Mar Studios); Matt Chait (The Complex Theaters); Phil Feiner (Pacific Title); Jack Fleming (ADS); Ron Groeper (Groeper Photography); Mike Mallick (Marcus and Millichap); Tim Mahoney, Interim President (Hollywood Center Studios); Amie Moore, Secretary (Musicians' Union); David Mozes, Treasurer (CMS Real Estate); Mike Parker, Vice President (Mole Richardson); Brian Scane (Paladin Group); Ron Stein (Crest National); Al Sweet (Al Sweet Development); and Eliza Thorne (Seward Film Vaults).

Committees Meet

The Board of Directors has created four different committees to oversee various aspects of the Business Improvement District. Below are the Committee names, responsibilities and members:

1. Advocacy and Business Development:
   Zoning and City Planning, Long Term Strategies, Parking, etc.
   
   • Will Anabel, Carol Cassella, Tim Mahoney, Mike Mallick, Amie Moore, Mike Parker, Al Sweet, Eliza Thorne.

2. Cleaning and Maintenance:
   Streetscape, Beautification, Manage cleaning and maintenance contracts.
   
   • Matt Chait, Ron Groeper, David Mozes, Brian Scane, Ron Stein, Eliza Thorne.

3. Public Safety:
   Community relations, homeless outreach, manage security contract.
   
   • Juan Cabral, Carol Cassella, Jack Fleming, Ron Groeper, Tim Mahoney, Mike Parker, Brian Scane.

4. Executive Committee:
   This committee consists of the officers, and will manage Personnel, Finances and Governance.
   
   • Carol Cassella, Tim Mahoney, Amie Moore, David Mozes, Mike Parker.

The Cleaning/Maintenance Committee and the Public Safety Committee have both been meeting to choose a contractor for their respective programs. At the February board meeting, The Cleaning Committee recommended HBT (Hollywood Beautification Team) to the Board as their choice for the Cleaning and Maintenance Contract. HBT had been the BID's clean team for the past 5 years, and will continue, as the Board voted to accept their proposal for a new contract.

The Public Safety Team is still in discussion and will be making a recommendation at the March Board Meeting.

The Media District continues to host a monthly Business Watch Meeting in cooperation with the Hollywood Division of LAPD. Hollywood Senior Lead Officer Vince Aguirre leads the meetings, which focus on current crime trends in the area, what is being done to address security issues in the Media District, and what needs to be done.

All business owners are encouraged to attend the meetings which take place the second Thursday of each month, unless otherwise notice is given. The meetings are held at the Hollywood Community Room, 6501 Fountain, beginning at noon. Lunch is provided and the meetings generally last one hour.

Currently, the meetings have addressed parking problems and homeless issues in the new expansion area of the BID.

The next Business Watch is scheduled for Thursday, April 14th. Please come and air your needs!

The Media District is working with DWP on installing additional lighting in areas with need. The DWP offers free installation of outdoor lighting when a property owner selects a location where a wooden pole is present. The property owner then pays a nominal monthly usage bill.
